YOU THINK YOU NEED MORE DISCIPLINE

You don’t.

You think:
  • “This time I’ll stick to it”

  • “I just need to be more consistent”

  • “I won’t go back again”

But you always do.

WHAT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING

You’re trying to change behavior…

Without changing identity.

So you:
  • Act different for a few days

  • Feel motivated for a while

  • Then slowly return to your old patterns

Not because you failed.

Because your identity stayed the same.

THE REAL PROBLEM

You still see yourself as the same person.

So your brain pulls you back to what feels familiar.

Because:

Identity drives behavior.

Not the other way around.

WHY YOU RELAPSE

You’re focused on actions.

But your mind is protecting identity.

So when things get hard:
  • You go back to comfort

  • You repeat old habits

  • You undo your progress

Because that’s who you believe you are.

WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS

You don’t force change.

You shift identity.

You start thinking:
  • “I’m someone who shows up”

  • “I’m someone who takes action”

  • “I don’t go back”

Now your actions match your identity.

THE SHIFT

Stop saying:

I’m trying to change

Start saying:

This is who I am now

Because:

Identity → Actions → Results

Not the other way around.

TRY THIS

Pick one habit you want to change.

Then:
  • Define the identity

  • Act like that person once

  • Repeat it daily

Example:

Not → “I’m trying to wake up early”

But → “I’m someone who wakes up early”

FINAL THOUGHT

You don’t go back to old habits…

You return to your old identity.

Change becomes permanent when your identity changes.

ONE LAST THING

If your identity doesn’t change…

Nothing else will.
